Paul Galbraith Guitar

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s annual guitar festival kicks off in fine style with one of the most celebrated players and innovators of his generation. Scottish-born and now based in Brazil, Paul Galbraith not only has an international concert career spanning three decades, but has also developed a revolutionary new design for the guitar, the ‘Brahms guitar’ which he has taken to audiences worldwide.

Matthew McAllister & Aisling Agnew 

Both graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the duo of Scottish guitarist Matthew McAllister and Irish flautist Aisling Agnew celebrates their tenth anniversary together in the place where it all began playing new works specially commissioned for their ensemble.

A performance platform for some of the best young students from around the country who have been invited to the RCS to participate in Scotland’s leading guitar event.

Ian Watt & Pavel Steidl in Concert

Ian Watt is in his final year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is already recognised as a star ascending. With a collection of international prizes under his belt, 2011 heralds the launch of his first CD with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Nimbus Alliance. Tonight Ian will begin proceedings for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening of music making. He will share the stage with one of his teachers, virtuoso guitarist and Royal Conservatoire International Fellow, Pavel Steidl. Pavel is well-known to Glasgow concert-goers, many of whom are still talking about his moving recital from 2010.

Two of Scotland’s leading jazz guitarists join forces presenting a selection of their own compositions and some well know jazz favourites

The culmination of the BGW course, students are have a chance to show what they’ve learned over the weekend.

Scottish International Guitar Competition Final

Big Guitar Weekend reaches its climax with an event of historical importance, the final of the first ever Scottish International Guitar Competition . Hundreds of entrants from around the world submitted their videos online, and were judged by an international panel scattered across the globe. That panel has whittled it down to three of the best guitarists on the planet, who have come to Glasgow to complete for a number of prestigious prizes. Who will the winners be?
